Amazing Yosemite Valley Flood in 2009 Nikon CalendarThis photograph was featured in the 2009 Nikon Calendar and is perhaps my favorite image that I've ever captured in Yosemite. There was a severe flood in 2005 and I arrived in the valley just days afterwards. Much of the valley floor was still flooded. The area where the reflection appears in the foreground is typically a field, but in this case it was flooded. As I stood there just at sunrise the sun peeked up over the edge of the valley and lit the trees which created this amazing selectively lit photograph. I was visiting the valley with 10 other photographers and even though they were standing near feet away from me, none of them captured an image that looked anything like this one. Much about nature photography is about being in the right place at the right time and I certainly was on this early May morning.
Location: Yosemite National Park.
