Elizabeth + Leo Wedding – Caltech & Mission 261 Restaurant

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Elizabeth and Leo were married a few weeks ago in Dabney Hall at Caltech (California Institute of Technology) in Pasadena, California. And that of course seems only appropriate since Leo is a physicist who works for JPL! The reception followed at the Mission 261 restaurant in San Gabriel, California. I was just in that area a few weeks ago photographing Sal & Letty’s for their creative session, so for this wedding, we decided to walk a few blocks down to the San Gabriel Mission for a few photos before Elizabeth & Leo’s grand entrance. My favorite photo of the event is the last photo in this blog post. The guy with the rose in his mouth is Leo’s father! He’s one wild and crazy guy! Rachel’s Family Portraits

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Today I dropped by Rachel’s home to photograph her family and create a few lifestyle portraits. As you can see, her daughters were really great subjects! And were even able to work a pumpkin into the mix! Here are a few photos from their session.

Kimberly & Brian – Moorpark Country Club

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Kimberly and Brian were married at Moorpark Country Club in Moorpark, California on a rainy Saturday two weeks ago. Since this event was a garden wedding, we were really worried about being able to go forward with the outdoor ceremony. But luck was with them and the weather cleared just in time to allow Kimberly and Brian to keep to the original plan for an outdoor ceremony (although it was sprinkling pretty hard during Kimberly’s walk down the aisle).

The flowers for this wedding were provided by "Flowers by Leah." They were some of the most amazing arrangements I’ve seen in a very long time. What made these arrangements very unique was that every bridesmaid had a different bouquet and the groomsmen had boutonnieres matching each bridesmaid.

Because the ground was very wet, our plans for a long pre-ceremony creative session with the bride, groom, and wedding party was really limited. That being said, we made the best of it and were still able to capture a few really creative images. One of my favorite photos from the wedding is seen below (the second photo in this post) and occurred when Brian saw Kimberly for the first time. Brian initially had his back to Kimberly, but then turned around when the wedding party counted down from three. As soon as he saw Kimberly, instead of walking to her, he used a running/skipping/gliding approach that was great fun to watch (and photograph).

I also wanted to mention that I worked with Vanessa as my second photographer for this wedding. One thing I love about photographing weddings with Vanessa is that she captures amazing detail photographs. One of her cake photos is seen in the post below. And as usual, Vanessa did an amazing job! Staci, Kiani, & Maile Portrait Session

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Staci, Kiani, & Maile stopped by the studio a few days ago for a quick portrait session. It’s been a few years since I’ve photographed Kiani, & Maile so I was blown away by how much they’ve grown! And although Staci had to be talked into it, I was able to convince her to sit for a few portraits with her daughters. Maybe she’ll be able to use one of the photos for her holiday card! Here are a few photographs from the session.

Friedericy Dolls – Catalog & Private Commissions

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Here are a few photos from our session with Friedericy Dolls tonight. These dolls are all going to be featured in catalogs or were commissioned by collectors. In this session, the Asian doll is my favorite. I really liked the delicate facial features. Lucia mentioned that she worked really hard on that one and that she was thinking about the emotions of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon during her creative process.

Sal + Letty Wedding – Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Sal and Letty were married last Saturday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Montebello, California. They started their day getting ready at the Hilton Garden Inn, also in Montebello (almost "across the street" from the church). After the ceremony, the wedding party moved to the San Gabriel Mission for creative portraits followed by Sal and Letty’s reception at the Sheraton Pasadena Hotel. I had photographed this couple’s engagement session just a few weeks ago so they were no strangers to my camera (and they were really great fun to photograph).

The groom and groomsmen were a laid back group of guys who made my time fly as they threw around "savory" jokes that only the best of friends could ever invent or accommodate. As you might expect, the bridesmaids were a little more reserved–at least until they started jumping on the bed. My favorite photo from this wedding features Sal & Letty standing by themselves in front of the mission (on each side of the large door). I guarantee that you’ll see that image as a double page spread in their wedding album! And for my second choice, I loved the sequence of photos that featured the ice cream man. I posted two photos from that sequence in this post, but there are at least a dozen exceptional photos in that set. If you’d like to see all the images from their wedding (and you know Sal’s last name), please click here to view the full gallery.

Chris Diggs Headshots – Los Angeles Studio

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Yesterday Chris Diggs stopped by the studio for a few headshots. Chris is an aspiring actor here in Los Angeles. His dad, Jimmy Diggs (former guitar player for the Coasters), also tagged along. When Chris was changing, I asked Jimmy to sit for a portrait as well. Here are some of my favorites from the session including one "artsy" portrait I captured during "in-between" moment.

Judy’s Reception – Campanile in Los Angeles

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Judy asked me to photograph her post-wedding party/reception last Sunday at Campanile (right next door / connected to La Brea Bakery) in Los Angeles, California. Most of my time was spent capturing candid photographs of guests and family but I also spent some time taking a few family portraits. And I also convinced the "bride and groom" to work with me to on developing a few creative photos. Can you identify Judy’s shoes?
