Wedding Photographs: Making Your List

As your wedding photographer, you won't see me walking around with a prepared list of photographs that I need to take on your wedding day. With my many years of experience and my ability to view a room with a photographer's eye, I work from my own plan, capturing the the day naturally--as events unfold. However, I'm often asked about the specific types of photographs that I might capture during the family portrait session most commonly organized after your wedding ceremony. Therefore, to answer those requests, I've developed a list of wedding photographs that might commonly be taken during the family portrait (aka formals) timeframe during a typical wedding. Please note that for planning purposes, you should budget a minimum of three (3) minutes per photograph to account for delays due to organization or availability. In other words, if you want ten family portrait configurations, you should plan on setting aside at least thirty (30) minutes.

To ensure that things run smoothly on your wedding day, I suggest that you compile your list and send it to me prior to your wedding. Please note that you should do this only so that I might review this information for potential issues. After I review this information, I'll send the list back to you along with any suggested modifications. You will then be responsible for distributing the list to your planner or event organizer. The planner or organizer will be the person responsible for keeping track of this list and gathering the individuals during this time period. Please note that in most cases I will not have a copy of this list at your wedding. Therefore, it's important that you pass this list along to other people who will be attending your wedding and emphasize the importance of the list. I also recommend that you pass this list on to someone in addition to your planner or organizer since there have been several occasions when the organizer or planner will not have the list when it's needed. If that becomes the case, you'll be able to call on your alternate/backup planner who will provide the list and allow us to quickly move forward with the photography.
