This photograph tells the story of Ace waiting for Linda to arrive for their first look moment. For most weddings that I photograph, the couple will always see each other before the wedding.
There are many reasons why that is an ideal approach, but perhaps the most important is that it allows for more time for portraits since the couple does not have to squeeze that in somewhere between the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the reception. Also, you may have heard it was bad luck for a couple to see each other before a wedding. In fact, that outdated tradition comes from the idea that a couple would not see each other or even meet prior to the completion of the marriage ceremony thus ensuring that the wedding would go through regardless of the appearance of the couple or how attractive they found each other in terms of visual aesthetics. Since couples today will have always seen each other prior to their wedding ceremony (at least in all of the weddings that I am likely to photograph), that outdated tradition can be put aside in favor of allowing the couple to join their wedding guests during the cocktail hour.
