For this wedding located at the Pasadena Storrier-Stearns Japanese Garden, I captured this photograph of the bride's grandfather during the cocktail hour. He was sipping on his favorite beverage — a Bundaberg Ginger Beer. Whenever their grandparents present at an event, I will often try to photograph them both singly and together as in some cases that photograph may be the one that is most commonly representative of them long after their passing. Just a weeks after this event, this grandfather entered the hospital after having learned that he had cancer. When he was in the hospital, is one request was to see the photographs that I took of him at this wedding. The bride mentioned this to me in an email and I rushed all of their photographs out so that he would have them at his bedside. That kind of situation certainly brings home the idea as to the importance of photography and memory. Family is an important part of many people's lives and photography is a bridge that helps maintain connections even when there is great distance or time between events and people.
