This photograph of a laughing couple on their wedding day at the Culver Hotel in Culver City represents a beautifully candid moment.
I'll be the first to admit that there are a few technical issues with this photograph that market and perfect. However, every time I'm about to remove it from my portfolio, a perspective client invariably mentions how it's one of their favorite photographs on my website. That seems to indicate to me that emotion and candor trump perfection when it comes to creating a believable and compelling photo.
If I remember correctly, the bridegroom asked me to create a photograph featuring the amazing chandeliers in their reception dining room. Because of the angles involved I didn't immediately see a way to create a nice photograph using both them and the chandeliers in a more literal fashion. And I noticed the reflection of the chandeliers in the mirror above the couch and the idea for this photo was born.
This was my first and only wedding that I photographed at the Culver Hotel, and I must mention that I would love to work there again. There were so many areas of this property — hidden areas — that still call to me almost every day. Although I certainly made use of most of them with this couple, my creativity was running extremely high and the inspiration that the venue provided me with was particularly uncommon. So if you're looking for wedding photographers for this venue, I hope you will consider me and allow me to apply myself to creating some of the most amazing photographs ever captured at this location.
