Riviera Palm Springs is located in Palm Springs and this wedding is one of my favorites that I've ever photographed at this wedding location.
This couple's wedding reception was held both inside and outside the Sidebar club. If you haven't been this club, the walls and ceiling are black while it are spread throughout are several wall mirrors. As many wedding photographers will tell you, that will make any photography challenging. However, for this reception, I employed off-camera lighting in order to overcome some of the challenges posed in this environment.
I love this photograph for many different reasons. First of all, the photograph is important in that it celebrates the fact that same-sex marriage is now legal in California. As a strong proponent of marriage equality, I feel incredibly honored every time I am asked to photograph a gay wedding. In terms of the photograph itself, I love how the couple is having such a great time, particularly the groom in front. He was really a ball of energy the whole day long, and I love how it emotion came through before the wedding, during family portraits, in the middle of the ceremony, and particularly at the reception. In the far background, you'll notice that this wedding was a black tie affair and the reception guests follow that styling to a T. The thing I particularly enjoy about the guests in the background is how they are all looking on with different expressions as they enjoy their drinks in the midst of this party.Riviera Palm Springs (9). 1/125; f/6.3; ISO 2500; 70.0 mm.
