Indoor Bride & Groom Portrait: Creative Framing

For wedding photographers, how we see life and our surroundings informs our photography.

When I create a wedding-day photograph, I first take a safe photograph. Safe photographs are those with typical composition, typical poses, and typical lighting. Then, once I have the safe photography done, I look for ways to create less-safe images.

Less-safe images are sometimes magical, sometimes nice, sometimes mediocre, and sometimes terrible. Taking risks means both rewards and failures and I'm not afraid of either.

This wedding portrait would fall into my "nice" category. Using the building's architectural details to frame the couple makes for a unique perspective at this otherwise well-photographed wedding venue.
