Houston Shooting Sports Photographer

I am a Houston shooting sports photographer specializing in sporting clay photography, tactical shooting photography, and F-Class, IPSC, SCSA, IDPA, and 3-gun competitions (IMGA and USPSA) photography.

Sporting Clay Photographer (Trap & Skeet)

If you’re holding a sporting clay tournament at Greater Houston Sports Club, American Shooting Centers (ASC), Westside Sporting Grounds, or your private club, I have both the event photography and firearms experience you’ll need when you hire a sporting clay photographer.

I view sporting clay photography differently than “golf with a shotgun.” Some folks like to refer to it that way, but as both a former golfer and regular shooter, I understand that shotgun sports are very different from club sports. Unlike golf, speed and reaction times are incredibly important since the targets move. Plus, there’s more adrenaline. And since guns are involved, safety is paramount.

Although I’m putting these shotgun sports under one category, I understand the difference between sporting clay, trap, and skeet, although they’re photographed similarly. The main difference is understanding the different timings so I can get amazing photos of your tournament guests working their stations and taking out their clay targets, whether standard, midi, mini, battue, or rabbit.

For most tournaments, I include a mix of candid event photography, team portraits, and action photography. I’m also sometimes asked for a group photo that includes all attendees. For the team photos, I make sure shotguns are displayed to best effect with everyone exhibiting proper trigger discipline. For the action photos, I’ll capture spent shells leaving ejection ports and competitors extracting shells from their breach if they have a break-action shotgun. I’ll also capture smoke barrels and the clays exploding in mid-air.

Practical & Tactical Shooting Photographer

If you need a tactical training photographer in the Houston area, you’re unlikely to find anyone with my experience. I’m a solid choice if you’re running a class or need exceptional marketing photos that include your instruction or students.

Also, although I don’t participate in IPSC/USPSA events, I’ve attended and photographed many, so I know how to capture the action without interfering with range officers or competitors. Unlike amateur photographers, I anticipate key action, whether it’s competitor movements, reloads, or key action sequences.

F-Class Competition Photographer

I enjoy F-Class competitions most because of the precision involved. As a long-distance shooter myself, I focus on respecting the shooters, especially in my desire to minimize distractions. I have my cameras in silent mode and use telephoto lenses whenever practical.

I also always check with the shooter before their stage and before they begin preparing to make sure that they won’t be bothered if they’re photographed. I’ll often photograph their pre-stage tasks like loading magazines, checking scope settings, adjusting rests or bags, checking ballistic calculators, and interactions between other competitors, spotters, and officials.

Final Thoughts

I’m a Marine Corps combat veteran, and I’ve been shooting since I was six years old. I’m also a member at The Ranch, a private shooting club in Eagle Lake. This helps make me deeply knowledgeable about the practical and theoretical aspects of shooting sports, so please consider me for your next firearms-related event.
