This Cottage Pavilion wedding photograph is an excellent example of a non-denominational ceremony at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu. Photos similar to this one are typical of what I deliver to my clients as a wedding photographer. I love capturing these scene-setting images because it tells a comprehensive story featuring a bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, family members, and guests. This kind of image is typically made immediately after the processional. After photographing the moment when the bride's father presents the bride to the groom, I move quickly to the back of the ceremony to photograph this scene with a wide angle lens. Although this kind of photography is not terribly difficult, I've worked very hard over the years to master this kind of photograph—especially since I'll almost always include images like these as a double-page spread in a wedding album. For this venue, I love the way the large tree overshadows the entire scene and provides an excellent backdrop for the vows and ring exchange. The only challenge to this venue area is the steps that the bride, groom, and wedding party must climb to reach the ceremony area. However, that is perhaps counterbalanced by the idea that every guest can easily see the participants—and that's not often the case at many weddings I photograph.
