For this military wedding, I came up with the idea of having the bride and bridesmaids hold the groom and groomsmen swords.
This image was captured in front of my favorite wall at Pasadena City Hall. Although I only infrequently pose subjects where they are facing the camera, this seemed appropriate for this image because this is how soldiers would stand when holding the swords. That being said, the swords are not being held in the perfect position, and is a former military man myself, that troubles me. You might laugh at that sort of view, but it's really hard to break old habits and for me precision and symmetry are simply part of my visual handbook.
I'm not sure if it's because of the region where I live, but I haven't photographed many military weddings even though I'm very versed in military life as the son of a retired Marine and after having served six years in the Marine Corps myself including combat action during Operation Desert Storm / Shield. And I'd like to shoot more, so if you are a active-duty member of the military and you plan on having a military wedding where you and members of your wedding party are dressed in formal military uniforms, give me a call and I'll see what I can do to help make your decision in selecting the easier
