Emotion can be everything in a photograph. In fact, emotion can often trump perfection in terms of the technical aspects of a wedding photo.
When this bride was getting ready at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood, the father of the bride wanted to peek into the room and it was at this moment that I first conceived of the father's first look. For this photograph, before the bride's father into the room, I asked him to close his eyes and I walked him to the window overlooking Los Angeles. I had him face away from the bride and then asked him to open his eyes. I then softly said a few words that set the stage for the moment.
Those words are super secret and proprietary, so I can't mention them here but if you meet with me, I can give you more details about what I say during these moments. Anyway, I then stepped away and with the bride's mother and the bridesmaids looking on, I asked the bride to tap her father on her shoulder. When he turned and saw her for the first time, this is the result. A simple photograph for a simple time that shares an important moment between father and daughter on the wedding day.
