The subject of gay marriage and marriage equality in general is a subject close to my heart.
It's my belief that any two people who are in love should be allowed to have that relationship legally recognized. Now they gay weddings are legal in California as well as in other states, I'm beginning to see more inquiries for LGBTQ events. In fact, more than 15% of my weddings every year are same-sex — which is a higher percentage of the straight to gay population in California. I can only make the assumption that my work resonates with those couples and I'd love to think that my support for their cause, both past and present, comes through in my photography.
As is apparent in this photograph, this couple has been together for more than 20 years, and then the day finally came when they were able to make it official. Don't you love the expression on these two grooms? When I posed this photograph, there are several technical considerations the came into play. First of all, since the groom on the left was shorter than the groom on the right, I had him lift his sign to balance the photograph. I also position the couple on a wall of gray boards that were complementary to their gray suits and yet helped their faces and orange accents stand out.
