For this Malibu reception, the bride and groom decided that they wanted to include a garter toss tradition. One of the things that I like to do whenever I'm photographing the groom going for the garter, is to make sure that all of the single men are called up before that process begins so that I can arrange them in the background of the photograph. Doing so allows me to create some visual interest that might not otherwise be possible if the background was not controlled. As you can see here, not only are some of the bride's and grooms favorite friends and family nearby, but they help lend substance to the overall story as they react naturally to the moment. Their faces reflect joy, amusement, boredom, or simple disinterest in all of that is fine because it's a reflection of what was actually happening at the time. This image is also excellent in that the bride has such a great reaction on her face as she points down to the groom who is striving to remove the garter from her leg. It was also the favorite photograph of all of the wedding reception traditions that I photographed for this particular couple. This wedding was photographed at a private estate in Malibu, California.
