This is an unretouched photograph of a groom getting ready at the Langham in Pasadena before his wedding at a nearby church. Most the photographs to my portfolio are retouched to some degree. In some cases, I might have removed a blemish or lightened areas underneath a subjects eyes. In other cases I might have removed people from the photograph entirely or changed major parts of the background. But in this case, this image is true photojournalism and that it is exactly as it was captured except that it was converted to black-and-white after the fact. One of the things I've been working on in my own photography is a move to more true photojournalism in my work where I capture candid moments in addition to my lightly directed moments. The issue with photojournalism when I am removed from the scene and do not interact at all with my subjects, is that it is very difficult to achieve any quantity of amazing photographs at any particular event. And for the clients that hire me, many want to have an incredible mixture and variety to choose from after the fact. And so I use a mixture of documentary, lightly directed, traditional, and photojournalism styles when I am photographing a wedding so as to provide a large quantity of images showcasing the wide range of styles.
