This is the largest collection of bridesmaids, groomsmen, and bridesmen that I've ever photographed.
To save you the effort of counting faces, there are forty-six (46) men, women, and children in this incredibly huge wedding party. I'm often asked why the bride and groom chose so many folks to be attendants in their wedding and I can only answer for the groom's side. In his case, his groomsmen included lifelong friends, high school friends, college friends, law school friends, work friends, and political friends. The guest count for the wedding was around 200 people so this was an extremely big wedding party considering the total population present at this lovely event.
In terms of this photograph, it took me about 10 minutes to get everyone in position. In order to create a portrait of a group this large, it's very important to move as far back from the group as possible in order to reduce the distortion that comes from using wide angle lenses. In this case, there wasn't much room to work and thus I was forced to the edge of a large downward slope and stood precariously on a folding chair supported by my second photographer. As someone who is afraid of heights when standing on unstable ladders at great heights, I'll admit that I was somewhat concerned. However, it had to be done or the photograph would not have been as good as the one you see here.
I took about 15 photographs of this wedding party but I only used two of them to make this portrait. After I found the best photo of the group, I used Adobe Photoshop and took three sets of eyes from another photograph and pasted them onto the bridesmaids and groomsmen who blinked when I took the best of the series.
